5 Halloween Decor Ideas for Sunrooms, Patios, and Porches

That spooky time of year will soon be here! With the crisp autumn air and colorful trees, Halloween is the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of your sunroom, porch or patio. To add some haunting charm, here are 5 easy decor ideas for you and your trick-or-treaters to enjoy. Best of all, these decorations can be reused or repurposed - adding sustainable beauty to your living space.

  1. Candy Corn Wreath- Using a hot glue gun, attach a loop of ribbon to the back of a foam wreath from your local craft store. Attach candy corn with hot glue to completely cover the front and sides of the wreath. Once dry, hang on a covered patio or in your sunroom. (Repurpose by using through Thanksgiving and hanging again next Halloween, or by gently pulling the candy corn off and hot gluing small ornaments on the wreath for Christmas, or Easter eggs for Easter.)
  2. Ghost Posts- Buy a 4"x6"x8' wooden post from your local hardware store. If you don't own a saw, ask the store to cut it into 4 equal or varying lengths, depending on if you want all your ghosts to be the same height. Stand the posts upright and paint them white (leftover house paint from your garage works perfectly). Once dry, use black acrylic paint or permanent markers to add ghost faces to the posts. Stand the ghost posts in a cluster on your sunroom, porch, or patio. (Repurpose by using again next Halloween or redecorating the posts as snowmen for Christmas or bunnies for Easter.)
  3. Traffic Cone Candy Corn- Buy 2 or 3 orange traffic cones from your local hardware store, office supply store, or discount store, along with a tube of yellow and a tube of white acrylic paint. Paint the bottom third of each cone yellow and the top third of each cone white, leaving the middle third orange. Once dry, display in a cluster or scattered throughout your sunroom, porch or patio. (Repurpose by using next Halloween, or using as safety cones for kids playing outside, or repaint with dark green paint and dot remaining yellow and white paint onto the green cones to make Christmas trees.)
  4. Pumpkin Planters- Buy 2 large pumpkins and an array of fall colored flowers. Hollow out the pumpkins and place a cup, bowl, or vase that doesn't exceed the height of the pumpkins into the hollowed pumpkins. Fill those containers with water and arrange the flowers inside the pumpkins. Place on either side of your sunroom, porch or patio door, or anywhere that you like to have flowers. For extra frightful delight, use a permanent marker to add jack-o-lantern faces to the pumpkins, or wrap each pumpkin with a ribbon of black lace. (Repurpose by roasting the pumpkin seeds, moving flowers to a tabletop and carving the pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern on Halloween, or using your containers for endless other purposes.)
  5. Bat Cluster- Buy sheets of black craft foam from your local craft store. Print a picture of a bat off the internet. Trace and cut bats out of the foam sheets. Hang bats with tape in a cluster on your sunroom wall or dangle these waterproof bats using string, twine, fishing line, etc., from a porch or patio awning. (Repurpose by using next Halloween or by cutting the bats into small eyes, noses, mouths, and other shapes for any number of craft projects.)

These are just a few ways to add spooky beauty to your sunroom, porch, or patio this Halloween.
